Detroit is the site of a new industrial revolution in Detroit: Become Human, a game about life — human life, artificial life, and everything in between — from Quantic Dream, the makers of Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.
This project was originally shown to the world as a demo referred to as “KARA”, which presents a futuristic encounter with an android character who is brought to life before your eyes. The original technical demonstration (which at the time ran on PlayStation 3 hardware; the full game project has been commenced instead on PlayStation 4 consoles) used Quantic Dream’s advanced motion capture, animation and lighting technology.
Detroit: Become Human is the latest game from Heavy Rain developers Quantic Dream. It’s about a sci-fi Detroit where androids don’t have human rights, a description that also applies to real Detroit.
The trailer demonstrates moments of tense choice involving an unhinged android and a little girl. He holds her hostage on the roof of a skyscraper. In this scene, the player is Connor, another playable character (the first introduced was a woman android named Kara). Connor is an android who works with police forces to help deal with deviant androids. So this is a day in his typical life, though likely also the start of something much bigger. There are many possible unhappy endings to the scene. I would argue that none of them are entirely happy.
